The Most Common Questions about Towels
How can I make my towels fluffy and soft?
If you have bought new towels, these factory-made versions are relatively hard. In general, home textiles should be rinsed once before the first use. This initial wash can help to remove any leftover residues from the manufacturing processes.
In order to get towels soft and fluffy, a conventional fabric softener is recommended. Tests have shown that it does not matter whether you take an expensive branded product or a cheap fabric softener from the discounter.
Is there a machine for wringing out towels?
In the past, there were still manual wringing machines, and after washing, the home textiles were pressed by two wooden pressure rollers. Today, these machines are usually only found in museums. However, a machine for wringing out towels is also no longer required.
It is much easier to throw your towels in the washing machine. In this way, the excess water is pressed out by centrifugal force.
Can towels be washed at 90 degrees?
Towels are used throughout the household. They consist of a highly absorbent material, mostly terry cloth. The threads of a towel can absorb much more moisture than other fabrics. To this extent, they are also used in bathrooms and showers as well as for bathing.
Unfortunately, the washing of towels is not quite as easy. Without fabric softener, they come out much too hard from the washing machine. Here, you must also take care that the color from the towels does not discolor the rest of the laundry.
Since hygiene plays a major role during washing, towels should be washed at at least 60 degrees Celsius. This way all bacteria will be rid of. You can find detailed instructions on washing temperature on the maintenance label. As a rule, towels can be washed to 95 degrees Celsius.
How high should my spin cycle be for towels?
Towels are characterized by a high processing quality. In order to get them completely dry after washing, you can easily throw them in to spin. Towels are also suitable for high speeds of 1,400 to 1,600 revolutions per minute. Then you can hang up your towels again on the clothesline for drying.
What is the right detergent for towels?
The appropriate detergent for towels depends on the color or the pattern. If you want to wash dark or colorful towels, you should use a color detergent. These ingredients are designed to obtain color freshness.
If you want to wash white towels instead, you can use a full detergent. This usually contains bleaching agents or other optical brighteners, which are not suitable for a mixed load of washing.
In the case of towels for allergy sufferers, you should have a fine detergent.
How are towels properly dried?
After the spinning, most of the water is already pressed out of the slings of the towels. Nevertheless, they are still not completely dry. To make towels soft and fluffy, you should dry them in a tumble dryer. As a result, even the smallest fibers are aerated. This makes towels feel particularly cuddly.
If you want to dry your towels on the line outside in the sunshine, it may happen that these become somewhat rigid and stiff afterwards. After that, you have to knead the towels once, so that they become soft again.
Under no circumstances should you iron towels. The ironing process damages the fibers and loops of the towels as they are pressed down so that they cannot absorb enough water later.
