All You Need to Know To Find Your Perfect Bed
"While a man sleeps, so do his sorrows," says an old proverb. To allow our worries to pass, we need a sleeping environment in which we feel comfortable - and a bed which is inviting! Our guide gives you the most important criteria for searching for a bed.
Our guide to beds & a good sleep:
The composition of the bed:
Do you trust the tried and tested bedstead with mattress and slats or are you interested in a box-spring bed?
The bed frame: There are frames made of all kinds of materials: wood, plastic, metal, even stone. No matter what you choose, it should be stable, and the rest is a matter of personal taste. Look for seals of approval which confirm the quality of the material. Also don’t forget: the best bedstead is of no use to you if your mattress and slats are past their best. Old mattresses and worn slats are commonly the real reason for back complaints.
The box-spring bed: The American-style upholstery beds with multi-layer mattresses are the trend at the moment. They look cozy and are very stable. A boxspring bed consists of a mattress-like lower box, on which the actual mattress lies, above is a topper, which creates a comfortable sleeping area.
The disadvantages of this bed, as opposed to a bed frame with mattress and slats, lie in the air circulation of the mattress: it is more difficult because of the firm support. A box spring bed must therefore be well ventilated. Furthermore, the mattresses are more interchangeable.
The advantages: The boxspring bed is more stable than a slatted frame bed, because of the mattress-like underlay. In addition it is higher, which is particularly advantageous to elderly people or those with back complaints.
The type of bed:
What do you need? A normal double bed? A folding bed or high bed? A single bed or a daybed? Your decision depends on many factors:
Generally the rule of thumb: When in doubt, opt for a larger model of bed. Yes, this may result in less space in your bedroom, but you spend a lot of time in your bed, and comfort and getting a good night’s sleep should be the priority here.
However, with that in mind, watch out for the legs of the beds - we don’t want any tripping accidents!
For smaller rooms, such as guest rooms, we recommend combi - solutions such as functional areas where you can sit and sleep. Folding beds that can be elegantly hidden in the wardrobe or higher beds that make the best of the lower and upper levels, work really well in smaller spaces. Additionally, keep an eye out for models that include bed drawers, they can provide valuable extra storage space.
Look for the right bed in peace and check to see if it meets your criteria. Do not forget: the bed is one of the most important pieces of furniture in your life. Take your time to make sure you find the perfect bed for you individual needs.
Pay attention to quality and stability, even it costs a little more. Although it may be more expensive at the time, the investment will pay off.
